HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOURSELF

When it comes to your body type and the way you look, you might not have any control over your genes or how easily you burn fat, but you are fully responsible for making the most out of what nature has given you. Having poor genes is not an excuse to live an unhealthy lifestyle or let yourself get overweight. Strive to be the best version of yourself that you can be, even if you have to work twice as hard as some others do. Working hard on your body will create mental as well as physical strength, giving you willpower and determination that will help you conquer any obstacle and achieve anything you desire. Here are some factors that you can control when it comes to weight management:

Your diet

You control what types of food you eat, what you snack on, your serving sizes and how often you choose to eat. You are fully responsible for the food choices you make. You can choose to limit your junk intake, control your portions, snack healthily and make wise food choices. You have the willpower to make healthy food choices in restaurants and even on vacation. If you aren’t one of those fortunate individuals who can eat whatever they like and stay lean, you can still do whatever is required to manage your weight.

Your attitude

You can sulk and pity yourself for having poor genes, or you can shrug it off and work on building the best body you’ve ever had. You can strive to stay positive and realize that there’s no point in making excuses when you’re the one who is fully in control of what you do and don’t do. Who doesn’t want to be fit, confident and proud of their body? I’m sure you do! Work hard and you’ll get there, even if you have to make sacrifices and discipline yourself. It takes HARD WORK, but the rewards that come with achieving your goals will eventually outweigh all the sacrifices you had to make along the way. “I have bad genes. I’ll always be fat. I can’t” - the longer you make excuses for your current weight and refuse to take action, the more you’ll suffer, both emotionally and physically. Believing you’ll always be fat because of your genes or any other factor is self-destructive and will only lead to misery.

Time

When it comes to time management, you are the person who manages your day and makes the choice to conform to a healthy lifestyle. You can make time to exercise and plan in advance to ensure you stick to your healthy diet. If you know you’ll be somewhere where there’s no healthy food available, pack your meals and take them with you or eat before you go out. Pack your gym bag the night before and take it with you in the morning so that you won’t ever miss a workout session. Failing to plan is like planning to fail. See exercise as a priority and something worthy of your time. You can choose to slouch on the couch all day, eat pizza and feel lethargic, or you can get up and push yourself to get into the best shape of your life.

Exercise

You also choose how often you exercise and what kind of exercise you do. You can join a gym and only go once (or never!) or  dedicate a few hours per week towards achieving your fitness goals. You can push your body to the limit, run faster, lift heavier weights and keep challenging yourself to get stronger, or you can choose to be sedentary. Nobody is going to do it for you. Fitness isn’t something that can be given to you. Get up and earn it!

Your social circle

You have to make a choice when it comes to how easily you’re influenced by those around you and whether or not to give in to temptation. We’re all going to have friends and family that don’t want to take on a healthy lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean you need to follow in their footsteps. Even if people around you are eating doughnuts, don’t participate if you have a fat loss goal. Achieving your goal is so much more rewarding and fulfilling than eating junk food all the time because other people do it. If people judge you for doing what you do, shrug it off and ignore them. At first they may criticize you and ask you why you’re doing what you are, but eventually they’ll come and ask you how you did it and how they can do it too. Strive to be the person setting the example.
